For a lot of moms out there, parts of Grace’s story will probably resonate. After the birth of her first child, Grace joined the Y with a goal of losing some weight. She was open to trying different activities, allowing her to benefit from the great variety of classes available at her home location, the Whitaker Family YMCA. “Sometimes I like to go early in the morning or late at night and there are always options available. They offer so many options - TRX, cycling, water aerobics,” Goodwin shared. In addition to losing weight, Grace noted that she knew regular exercise would help her gain and maintain energy for keeping up with her growing, active daughter.

Grace was able to work toward those goals as a new mom by finding group exercise classes and eventually began one-on-one personal training with the YMCA of Central KY personal training team. Her experience with the staff has been overwhelmingly positive, noting that they are all very kind and invested in seeing her stay focused and help her meet her goals.

Another relatable part of Grace’s life is that she finds herself working from home full time now. In addition to being a mom, she is a teacher, connecting with students virtually, so her screen and her home time have both increased a bit. The Whitaker Family YMCA provides a place for her to break up the monotony of being home, and allows her time and space to establish healthy habits and feel good about what’s she’s doing for herself.

Grace continues to work toward her goals, working with personal trainer Erica and attending various classes. She’s looking forward to her summer schedule, which will allow her to try even more classes!
