The YMCA of Central Kentucky Black Achievers program serves youth, grades 6-12, and is designed to develop future leadership potential and encourage youth to pursue higher educational and career goals.
Founded in 1985, Black Achievers continues to support youth in academics, mentoring, and post-secondary success through dedicated business and community volunteers who support the program giving of their time, talents and treasures.
The Black Achievers Program meets every second and fourth Saturday and provides a robust curriculum that includes the following components:
Sessions are held at Transylvania University from 9 a.m. until noon (unless otherwise noted). A key benefit of the program is the relationship formed between adults and youth during career and developmental cluster workshops.
You can register online or we'll be hosting in-person registration opportunities across central Kentucky. Laptops will be available for in-person registration or feel free to bring your own device.

Scholarships are provided to senior participants who serve a number of years in the program and who successfully complete the Senior Scholarship Portfolio. These cash awards provide students with the support they need to meet post-secondary goals, and are provided through the generous support of individual donations and corporate sponsors who believe in our mission.
In addition to generous donations, corporate sponsorships allow for businesses and organizations to nominate successful role models who volunteer their time and talents as Adult Achievers for the school year. Adult Achievers are recognized for their professional skills, program support and desire to give back to the community. For more information, please contact Vice President of Mission Advancement at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are interested in volunteering with the YMCA Black Achievers program, please complete our volunteer registration form and a member of our team will be in touch to confirm we received your information and provide next steps in the volunteer process.
