YMCA of Central KY staff Claire R. in Lexington, KY

You might recognize many YMCA of Central KY employees from visiting our various locations, attending events, or participating in classes and programs. But several people serve in roles that are behind-the-scenes, including the team that comprises the Business Operations Center (BOC), which provides comprehensive, association-wide member and staff support. Claire Roberts has been a critical part of the BOC for a year and a half as a business analyst. In this relatively short time, she has embraced the mission of the Y and its commitment to serving others, both as a community organization and an employer. "In my short time at the Y, I have seen that the Y impacts the community in so many ways, and I have personally been so positively impacted by the Y. I have created everlasting bonds with my coworkers," she shares. "Our staff are amazing at all the branches and departments. Everyone is so welcoming."

As a child, Claire participated in a few years of YMCA youth soccer, but otherwise was not very involved with the organization. Now, though, she recognizes the Y as "such a wonderful place to work, gather, exercise and much more. I have learned in my short time here, that it is more than just a gym." In addition to building relationships with her colleagues, Claire exercises regularly and has enjoyed taking Pilates Reformer. "The Y has provided me and continues to provide me with joy and opportunity."

Part of that opportunity is that her job brings regular interaction with YMCA members. "My job is VERY behind the scenes; however, it is so rewarding." Claire evaluates applications for financial assistance, the mechanism that allows the YMCA to stay open to all through scholarships for membership and programs. "Our financial assistance provides the opportunity for adults and children to have access to affordable enrichment activities, such as swim classes, soccer, flag football and more. It also assists families with the expense of childcare, such as after school care and summer camp," Claire explains. With the unique perspective of regularly communicating with recipients of financial assistance, she offers a message to donors to the YMCA annual Impact Campaign: "For all who donate to the Y, just know how much you are appreciated. From working through the approvals of financial assistance, I hear so many voices of gratitude."

Claire shares that it is "a dream come true to work for the YMCA of Central Kentucky," and we also feel thankful to have her, taking great and thoughtful care of members and program participants. She unwinds and recharges with her other half Cole, and two pets, spending a lot of their free time reading or hanging outside hiking or fishing.
