Commercial and residential security system provider Bates Security has built a reputation for excellent customer care and reliable, innovative security systems that is underscored by an emphasis on all aspects of life safety. So, it was a natural fit to become the sponsor of the first-ever Central Kentucky Swims event at the YMCA of Central KY in 2014. "We immediately recognized the significance of being a part of an event that prioritized teaching young children essential swimming skills and personal safety," shared Jeremy Bates, President of Bates Security. The partnership continues today, and has deepened as Jeremy now serves as a board member for the Y; Bates employees volunteering at CKY Swims and other events; and Bates providing Safety Tips for members displayed on digital screens throughout YMCA locations. "We are committed to making a positive impact in the communities and cities where our offices are located," stated Jessica Ping, Marketing & Communications Manager for Bates. "Our company believes in giving back through donations, sponsorships, and our unique Volunteer Time Off program. This program encourages team members to volunteer by providing them with paid time off to focus on making a difference. By participating in this program, our team members are able to contribute to a better world while also enjoying a well-deserved break." When they volunteer at the Y for Central KY Swims days, there is a unanimous and undeniable sense of satisfaction seeing children from local elementary schools have fun and learn about safety in and around water. “There is so much excitement as kids get off the school buses and transition into the Y. We line up on each side and give them high fives and cheer them into the building. Remembering their big smiles and excitement is always a great experience and memory."

For Bates, being involved with the Y "has opened our eyes to how much the Y does in our community. We are proud to do our small part to help the Y in areas where we can."
We're grateful for our partnership with Bates Security and the impact it has on the lives of our members and Central KY Swims participants.

Since 2014, the YMCA of Central Kentucky has been partnering with the Fayette County Public Schools to offer water safety instruction for students. This program, funded through generous donations to the Y from partners like Bates Security, aims to decrease the number of swim-related fatalities by giving youth the skills and confidence they need to safely enjoy the water. The 2023 event is Friday, Sept. 29 at the C.M. Gatton Beaumont YMCA, High Street YMCA, North Lexington Family YMCA, and Whitaker Family YMCA. For more information, including how to volunteer for this event, please visit here.
