84-year-old Robert Sanders has been combating serious back and neck issues for the past 40 years. He had been routinely going to a physical therapy facility over the years. Back in July, he decided to join the Y.
‘Mr. Bob’, as the YMCA staff refer to him, has been coming to the C.M. Gatton Beaumont YMCA five days a week for his daily exercise since joining.
“It’s a really friendly place! Every person that works here, has gone out of their way to help me and remembers my name,” Robert commented. In our conversation with him, he shared that the YMCA’s healthy living director Nikki Hartley immediately helped him with an exercise plan. “She answered every last question I had when showing me around the Y,” he added.
Robert shared with us that he enjoys going to lunch with his friends, writing cards and letters to his friends and loved ones, and enjoys going to the race track, on occasion.
“Everybody has their place…and my place is definitely at the Y right now,” he added.
Robert’s contagious smile shows just how important it is to have a place where everyone knows your name and you feel you belong. We are so happy to have ‘Mr. Bob’ as a new member of our Y.
