May 29, 4:00 p.m. The YMCA of Central Kentucky wanted to provide an update to all members regarding the option of converting their membership dues to donations for the month of June.

Per IRS guidelines, if the YMCA of Central Kentucky is open and a member uses our facilities, then the Y has exchanged a service for the member’s dues, and therefore, we cannot attribute those dues as a tax deductible donation.

All members considering the dues to donation option have a choice in June:

  • If a member pays his or her dues in June and DOES NOT use a facility, then the funds will be converted to a donation;
  • If a member pays his or her dues in June and DOES use a facility, the funds are considered membership revenue by the YMCA of Central Kentucky and will not be converted to a donation.

We wanted to inform you of these options as you consider returning to the Y.

For those of you who plan on coming in soon, we look forward to seeing you. For those of you that choose to stay with us, convert your dues to donations in June, thank you for your ongoing support of the YMCA of Central Kentucky.

May 14, 1:00 p.m. We are now preparing to reopen our doors, and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our locations. However, returning to the YMCA will look and feel different for some period-of-time.

As we prepare for our reopening on June 1, we want you to know that our number one priority is your safety. Steps we are taking include:

  • Rigorous disinfecting of facilities, prior to opening and each day upon closing,
  • Training of our staff on new mandated cleaning protocols,
  • Check-in procedures that are touchless,
  • Additional sanitation stations for equipment wipe downs before/after usage.

Your visits to the YMCA upon reopening will also be different for some time due to health and safety and government protocols. Some of these include:

  • Only select YMCA locations will initially be open to members,
  • Smaller numbers of members allowed in the facilities during our reduced operating hours,
  • Social distancing measures in the facility, and in-and-around equipment and workout stations,
  • Staff members will be wearing face masks,
  • There will be no coffee service or sitting together in common areas to visit and catch up,
  • Locker rooms will be for restroom usage only, no shower service will be allowed,
  • Only wellness center activities will initially be permitted.

Upon reopening, we will not offer group exercise classes, but will continue to host these through our Virtual YMCA. If you haven’t checked these out yet, we strongly suggest you do as there is much content available, including children’s content, on demand. While there is a plethora of health content available on the website, we wouldn’t be the YMCA if we didn’t offer mind and spirit content also, which can be found there too. We also have a specific section of content and classes for our active older adults.

As the COVID-19 rules and regulations evolve, we will update members via email, social media, and on our website. You will find the most up-to-date information here about reopening. Examples might include updated facility information, group exercise, reopening of the pools and aquatic classes, youth sports, and other programming. Please be patient as we reopen, we too are eager to reengage and reconnect, but only when it is safe to do so.
