October 16, 2026 Update:
The acquisition of Proof Fitness, LLC by the YMCA of Central Kentucky is officially complete! Beginning tomorrow, Saturday, October 17, the YMCA will take over operations at the Proof Fitness locations in downtown and Tates Creek Centre.
For the first two weeks of Y operations, we ask that only current Proof Fitness members use the downtown and Tates Creek locations. This will allow us to transition Proof members who want to join the Y and ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
YMCA all-access members can begin utilizing these two new locations beginning Saturday, October 31:
- Main Street YMCA (Downtown): 230 W. Main St.
- Tates Creek YMCA: 4101 Tates Creek Centre Dr.
A Reminder About High Street
Friday, October 30, will be the final day of operations at the High Street YMCA. The facility will be open, 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., giving members a final opportunity to visit before the location permanently closes.
September 30, 2026 Update:
The YMCA is continuing negotiations to finalize the purchase of Proof Fitness, LLC. YMCA members will not have access to Proof Fitness at this time. We’ll share more information and details about what’s next for both member groups as soon as we are able to.
Thank you for your patience as we work through this process. More to come!
August 20, 2026 Update:
The YMCA of Central Kentucky recently announced an asset purchase agreement has been signed to acquire Proof Fitness in Lexington. The transaction is expected to close in early October 2026, at which time the two Proof Fitness locations will become YMCA facilities.
“This acquisition helps us address an immediate need – keeping our High Street membership together,” said Paula Anderson, president and CEO of the YMCA of Central Kentucky. “It also allows us to expand into the Tates Creek area, bringing the YMCA's mission and programs to a growing part of our community.”
After the transaction is complete, members of the YMCA of Central Kentucky will have access to these new locations as part of their existing membership, while the organization looks forward to welcoming Proof Fitness members to the YMCA. More details about membership, programming, and transition timelines will be shared with both member groups in the coming weeks.
As the Downtown Proof Fitness location transitions to a YMCA facility in early October, the Y will begin moving memberships and classes currently based at High Street to the new location. The High Street YMCA will officially close on October 30, 2026. The YMCA will continue serving downtown members at all Y locations. The organization is also taking time to celebrate High Street’s more than six decades of impact and honoring the generations of members, staff, volunteers and community members who have been part of its story. Commemorative activities will take place through October.
“While the Board remains fully committed to building the partnerships necessary for a new downtown YMCA, this investment provides an important bridge for our High Street members. It allows us to maintain presence downtown, continue serving the members who have been part of the High Street YMCA community, and preserve the connections that make the Y so important to so many people,” said Steve Byars, chair of the YMCA of Central Kentucky Board of Directors. “We believe continuity of service matters, and this investment gives us the opportunity to remain connected to downtown while we continue exploring the best path forward for the YMCA’s future. The more places we can bring the Y, the more opportunities we have to connect with people, build community, and make a difference.”
As we move forward, we’ll continue to share updates and information with our members, staff and community. Please check our website for ongoing updates and answers to frequently asked questions.
