Meet Annissa Franklin, one of our wonderful volunteer board members.

Behind every strong YMCA is a dedicated group of leaders who give their time, insight, and passion to move our mission forward. Our volunteer board members at the YMCA of Central Kentucky play a vital role in shaping our impact, helping ensure that we continue to remove barriers, strengthen community, and serve all.

We’re grateful for their leadership and commitment, and excited to introduce you to their own Y stories and the reasons they choose to invest in the Y.

Three words you think of when you think of the Y: Friends, Fitness, Partner

What is one thing about the Y you wish everyone knew about or could experience?
The Y is more than a place to come and work out. Throughout the year, you can see their dedication to student success. From youth sports to educational impact through programs like Black Achievers or Power Scholars, the Y is a full service organization.

When I'm not working or volunteering for the Y, you can find me:
Traveling to all 50 states with my adult children. What started as a way to explore Kentucky colleges and have a little fun on the weekends has evolved to day trips and soon multiple-day stays somewhere in the United States - at least until we reach all 50 together.

Playing the piano or singing in a church choir. I've been playing the piano since I was seven. I took classical piano for 10 years while developing my ear to play gospel music. I've been playing for a church since I was 13.

What inspires me to donate to the YMCA:
The Y has always been a part of my life. While in elementary school, I watched my mom teach aerobics at the Caroline Center in Nicholasville. When we moved to Lexington, I used to stop at the YWCA on Cross Keys and swim as often as I could. The Y was always a safe place for me and I can't imagine any kid not having that same experience. I donate because at the Y students learn life lessons like teamwork, to keep pursuing their goals, and make lasting friendships, while also receiving educational support. I donate because life is hard and families need a place they can find love and support.
