Shaye Griffin has been at the YMCA's full-service child care center the Center for Children since it opened in 2013; before that, she worked at the Child Development Center at the North Lexington Family YMCA. She has worked with toddlers, two year-olds, in Kids Corner, and at the beginning of this year, was promoted to education coordinator at the Center. Through these many years, she has had a rare and special opportunity to be a part of the lives of families the YMCA serves. "It is exciting to see a child grow from an infant to school age and know we played a part in their development and potentially form lifetime bonds with them and their parents," Shaye shares. "Being here for over ten years at the Center for Children, I have developed not only lasting friendships with families that we provide care for, but I also have an extended family with my co-workers."
It is undeniable that Shaye has a gift for working with children and their families, and doing that at the YMCA has provided some practical advantages for her. "What I appreciate the most about the Y is that they offer a pension plan for its employees and the extra programs that are offered with your health plan," she explains. She has also leveraged some unique resources to which she has access: "With having a few health issues, the Y offers several classes and information that are beneficial to helping me change my way of living to become a healthier me. Being at the Center for Children and having Chef Heather prepare meals has helped me find healthier meals that benefit me. The Y has positively impacted my life by helping me manage a healthier lifestyle."
When she's not at the Center for Children, you can find Shaye with her family, traveling, reading and enjoying sporting events.
We are grateful for the way Shaye has served our community and cared for our children so well at the Y and are thrilled to see her leading and growing in a new way with her newest promotion. Thank you for your years of service, Ms. Shaye!
