Kate Kesler is hoping she ends her YMCA swim team career on a high note, specifically hoping she qualifies for state. She's made it before, placing fifth in one of her favorite events, the 200 butterfly, in 2022 as a North Lexington YMCA Tigershark.
Competing at that level, Kate has picked up a few lessons along the way that she offers to younger swimmers: "You might get frustrated at first, but sticking with it will be the best decision. Focus on your technique and have fun." This balance of work and joy reflects the theme of what Kate says has been her own experience as a Tigershark. Through participation on the team, she has learned how to be a good teammate and keep a positive attitude, while it has provided community and discipline.
We know these experiences will help her as she graduates from Lafayette High School and begins a college career majoring in English on a pre-law track. When she's not in school or the pool, Kate enjoys baking, reading, and sleeping.
Kate, we wish you all the best this semester in and out of the pool. We hope you enjoy every second and are cheering you on all the way to state!
